Shri Sanjay Upadhyay
Sanjay Upadhyay (Member since 2004), Advocate, Supreme Court of India, is the founder and managing partner of the India’s first environmental law firm, Enviro Legal Defence Firm. He also established the charitable arm of the Law firm through the Environment Law and Development Foundation. Sanjay has been practicing environment and development law since 1993. An India Visiting Fellow at the Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley (Fall 1996) and a legal intern to the Earth Justice Legal Defense Fund, San Francisco, he started his professional career at the World Wide Fund for Nature– India at the Centre for Environmental Law. Sanjay has served as an environmental and development law expert to most well-known international, multilateral, national and state Institutions including World Bank, IUCN, FAO of United Nations, UNDP, AFD, DFID, ILO, SDC, IC, IIED, ODI, WWF, Green Peace, HBF, TERI, WINROCK, MOEF, MOPR, MOTA, MNRE, IIFM, ICFRE, IEG, WII, IIPA, NIRD, University of Cambridge, Duke University to name a few. He has been part of Drafting Committees of several forest, wildlife and biodiversity related legislations both at the national and state level.

Eisha Krishn
Eisha Krishn is a graduate from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. Eisha has deep interest in resolving environmental disputes through the tool of law and has been advocating the cause of environment since her college days. Her areas of interest include laws relating to Environment, Wildlife and Protected Areas.

Salik Shafique
Salik Shafique graduated from Amity Law School, Noida and completed his Masters of Law from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Salik has interned in the field of environmental law since his college days. He has also been a part of government programmes in implementation of legislations. His areas of interest include Environment Protection, infrastructure development, compulsory afforestation, governance and environment clearance.

Vibhav Misra
Vibhav has read at established chambers at Trial Courts, Delhi High Court and Supreme Court of India. He has practiced largely on Civil/Writ/Commercial litigation in Delhi and U.P. and has been empanelled by PSU's and State Governments. He successfully represented the industries in the Ganga Pollution matter before the National Green Tribunal. He handles variety of environmental matters at ELDF.

Shubhashis Rasik Soren
Shubhashis Rasik Soren is a graduate in Political Science Hons. and thereafter in LLB from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi. After practicing at the Delhi bar and Supreme Court for a few years, he joined the Jharkhand Judicial Services as Civil Judge, however, in order to pursue his passion for Constitutional Law and Environmental Laws, he once again joined the bar at Jharkhand High Court. He is committed towards cultural preservation which is a constitutional right, which he believes can in turn protect environment and secure sustainable development.
Shubhashis is a singer, guitarist, drummer and also plays piano and also enjoys traveling and meeting new people.

Saumitra Jaiswal
Saumitra graduated from Amity Law School, Noida & completed his schooling from The Scindia School, Gwalior. His area of interests covers all the laws related to environment and works with the sole purpose of its betterment. He specializes in Environment Impact Assessment, Air Pollution, Environment Protection Act, 1986 and all the Rules enacted under it.
Saumitra is a musician, filmmaker and has a keen enthusiasm for all sport related activities.

Saumya Chaudhari
Saumya is a graduate from the premier National Law Institute University, Bhopal. Having headed the Environmental Law cell in her University for three consecutive years, she was clear about pursuing a career in Environmental law. She hails from Mumbai and is deeply interested in oceanic, coastal and water issues. She leads the Coastal and Water teams at ELDF.

Dr. B. P. Nilaratna IAS (Retd.)
Dr. B. P. Nilaratna Environment Law and Development, Senior Legal Adviser to ELDF is a Law graduate from University of Delhi. He has 34 years of administrative & scientific experience. He is former Joint Secretary to Ministry of Environment & Forest, Government of India. He has done Ph.D. from University of Leeds, UK and Masters from I.I.T Kanpur. He also has a D.Litt. in Economics. He has been trained in various international universities including University of Sussex, Brighton & Imperial College of Science & Technology, London. Dr. B.P Nilaratna has been the National Focal Point for Ozone and Montreal Protocol and for Mangroves and Coral Reefs in India. He was National Project Director for UNDP-GEF Project on Medicinal Plants. He has implemented numerous projects including the Multilateral Fund Projects and the Chillers Energy Efficiency Project of UNEP. He has to his credit numerous publications on a variety of subjects including Mangroves & Coral Reefs in India and a number of research papers on energy, ozone & chemicals management. Dr. Nilaratna has been awarded numerous distinctions including scholarships from International Institutes, Overseas Merit Scholarship, Chancellor Medal among others. He has led several Indian delegations in his official capacity in the entire globe including Meeting of Parties, Regional Meetings and Executive Committee Meetings of Montreal Protocol under United Nations Environment Programme.

Dr. Arvind Kumar Jha
Arvind Jha, Senior Legal Adviser to ELDF has a Masters in Forestry (AIFC) from the Indian Forest College (Now Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy) Dehra Dun, India. He has done his M.Sc.(Physics) from Ranchi University; M.A. in Sociology from JNU, New Delhi; and LLB from Nagpur University. As a member of the Indian Forest Service for over 35 years he has managed forests and wildlife in various capacities in the Government of Maharashtra as well as in the Government of India. He was awarded PhD on his research on the implication of Wildlife Act of India on the livelihood systems of the erstwhile criminal and hunting tribes called ‘Pardhi’. He worked as Commissioner in the Tribal Development Department of Maharashtra State Government and as the CITES Management Authority for the western zone of India at Mumbai airport.He has the experience of interacting with professional foresters of many countries; has studied forestry management systems of European countries like Finland and Germany; and has represented India in the Timber Theft Prevention Experts Workshop by World Bank at CEBU (Philippines). He has steered World Bank Projects and also Compensatory Afforestation Management and Planning Authority works in the state of Maharashtra. He is a member of various prestigious organisations including CEM (Commission on Ecosystem Management), IUCN, Society of Hill Resource Management School (SHRMS) and Founder member and President of Global Enviro-legal Services Foundation (GELSEF) Trust, Pune among others.
